What to Do First Onboard a Cruise Ship

cruise ship dos day one

You’ve waited a long time for your cruise to arrive and the anticipation has been making you crazy. We know, that moment you first step onboard is special, almost magical. You want to see and do everything right away before you even leave the port. Before you slap on the sunscreen and head to the pool, here’s a few things you may want to take care of first.

Confirm Dining
If your dining was not confirmed at time of booking or prior to your cruise departure, you’ll want to go and see the dining room staff to make sure you get your preferred time. Also, if you are looking to eat at any specialty restaurants, this is the time to reserve before the best times are taken. There may also be special pricing if you book a specialty dining for the first night.

Book Spa Appointments
Just like dining reservations, spa appointments can get booked up for the entire cruise by the second day. Be sure to ask if there are any special offers available. Appointments for sea days are the first to get booked up, but you may get better price if you opt to go on a port day instead. If interested, you’ll also want to book a spot in the private outdoor retreat (if offered), as availability is typically gone by day two.

Visit the Future Cruise Desk
Yes, you just boarded your cruise, but what better time to book another one. The future cruise desk on your ship will be by appointment only. Booking as soon as you board is good for two reasons. You’ll save yourself a lot of time waiting for an appointment. The appointment book will be filled with page after page of appointments very quickly. Another benefit is that you will get the option to receive an onboard credit that you can use immediately. Depending on the future cruise you book, this can amount to hundreds of dollars and if you don’t spend it while onboard, you lose it.

Visit the Kid’s Club
If you are traveling with children, it’s a good idea to visit the kids club early and make sure to bring the kids with you. For one thing, you’ll want your kids to be comfortable in there and it’s less overwhelming when there are less people around. Also, you may need to register your children and get special bracelets for them to wear that indicates their muster station. Lastly, for the younger children, some cruise ships distribute special phones that parents can use to keep in contact with the kids club. Depending on the number of kids on your sailing, they can easily run out of these phones.

Grab a Drink and Relax
Ok, your “work” is done. You’re on a cruise for goodness sake, get out there and enjoy yourself…
