Carnival Cruise Line announced plans today to grow its fleet by two additional ships by 2023, taking the delivery position of an Excel-class ship that had previously been assigned to sister line AIDA Cruises that will arrive in late 2023, as well as taking ownership of Costa Magica from another of its European sister lines, with that ship going through a dry dock, renaming and Carnival-branded conversion and joining the fleet by mid-2022. Royal Caribbean International marked the start of construction on its first Icon Class ship, revealing the name, Icon of the Seas during the steel-cutting ceremony at Finnish shipyard Meyer Turku, where the revolutionary ship will be constructed. Carnival’s Mardi Gras is the first cruise ship in North America to be powered by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). Carnival Cruise Line has confirmed that their long awaited and highly anticipated new cruise ship, Mardi Gras will arrive at her home port of Port Canaveral, Florida on June 4th, following a transatlantic voyage from Barcelona departing May 21st. After many years cloaked in secrecy under the Project Leonardo moniker, Norwegian Cruise Line has unveiled their latest new cruise ship Norwegian Prima. Wide Open Spaces After almost a decade of building their Breakaway and Breakaway Plus class ships, NCL has changed course and decided to go smaller with their new Prima Class ships. Returning to Fincantieri’s Marghera (Venice) shipyard in Italy, Holland America Line’s newest and third Pinnacle Class vessel, Rotterdam has successful completed two sets of sea trials off the country’s Adriatic coast. One of the most significant design changes Carnival Cruise Line made with the construction of their newest cruise ship Mardi Gras, was the change from an all white hull to the patriotic Red, White & Blue.
